I refer to the letter by Rosette Fenech, head of communications, Malta International Airport (March 31).

I wish to raise some points from my point of view as a passenger, mostly in relation to her assertions that the handling agent is responsible for the luggage.

A passenger deposits luggage at a check-in point with the airline, not with any other party, handling agent or otherwise. The passenger has no choice or control whatsoever on such matters.

The air travel ticket, which includes luggage, is contracted with the airline. Any contract by the airline with a handling agent should not concern the passenger.

As such, the airline should remain the contracting party responsible to the passenger for the luggage.
