France captain Guy Forget says his players have to get back to work after their Davis Cup QF exit at the hands of Russia.

France were defeated 4-1 with number one Richard Gasquet losing his two games against Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov.

They had already lost to Russia in last year's quarter-finals.

"I pick the best possible players but others are better than us. We have a good team spirit, which is a good thing to start with but then you face a talented player and you have to make the difference," said Forget.

"They're better so they beat us. And we have to face the fact many teams are better than us," he added.

France caused a major upset in Davis Cup history in the 2001 final when they defeated Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter's Australia on Melbourne's grass.

Since then, Forget's team have been beaten in the 2002 final and progressed to the last four only once.

Last weekend, Gasquet first lost to Safin after a thrilling five-setter. Arnaud Clement, who was standing for the injured Sebastien Grosjean, lost in four sets against world number six Nikolay Davydenko.
