Venus and Serena Williams have pulled out of this week's WTA event in Charleston citing fitness problems.

Venus's withdrawal follows a right elbow sprain while Serena has not yet fully recovered from the left knee injury that has sidelined her for much of 2006. Venus, 25, slipped to no.11 in the world rankings and Serena, 24, has fallen to a lowly 88. Like Venus, she has only played one tournament this year, the Australian Open.
