Christopher Sammut, 34 of Lija, was yesterday granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000 after being charged with a string of 26 thefts from students who were staying at SprachCaffe in Pembroke.

Some of the thefts date to August 2000 and include 18 instances of theft of money, 10 mobile phones, seven cameras, three cases of theft of hi-fi equipment and three cases of theft of clothes as well as a watch, a lap top and a pair of sunglasses.

Mr Sammut was also charged with relapsing.

Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted. Dr Edward Gatt appeared for the accused.
