A Few Days Ago, while carrying out some research at the National Library, I came across the announcement of the death of Henry Ph. Folland, the designer of the Gloster Gladiator planes.

The first air defenders of Malta, during the first days of the Second World War, were the three Gloster Gladiators, nicknamed "Faith", "Hope" and "Charity".

H. Ph. Folland died in September 1954 at Nottingham, aged 67 (Ref. Il-Berqa, September 10, 1954).

It is of great interest and pleasure to note that a model of a Gladiator was "in his bedroom, and it was the famous 'Faith'."

Recently Mr Rodney Burges, son of the well-known Fl. Lt. George Burgess, was in Malta and said that he was ready to present very important documents and medals if they are displayed at the Aviation Museum at Ta' Qali with "Faith" (The Sunday Times, March 19).

Fl. Lt. George Burges is credited with having destroyed the first enemy plane over Malta on June 22, 1940.
