Alternattiva Demokratika has welcomed the plans to embellish the promenade at Ghar Id-Dud, in Sliema.
AD's local councillor in Sliema Michael Briguglio said: "The Sliema local council has seen the plans for the demolition of the Chalet structure and the embellishment of the Ghar Id-Dud promenade which shall be carried out by the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure. The local council is in agreement with these plans."
AD's spokesman for the environment and rural affairs, Mark Causon, added: "AD also welcomes this long overdue embellishment which shall be a continuation of the embellishment of the Sliema promenade and shall not include any form of development which will impinge on or in any way destroy the caves in the area. It should be noted that these caves are sites of scientific importance".
Mr Briguglio called on the Prime Minister to reconsider the development of a 7,000 square metre commercial area and car park instead of the Qui-Si-Sana garden, and instead embellish the area for the benefit of residents, visitors and tourists. "This would result in better quality open spaces, thus enhancing quality of life," he said.
