The Luqa primary school - newly refurbished through an investment of more than Lm1 million - was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday.

Two floors of the school, opened in 1931, were completely rebuilt so that the original surface area has doubled with bigger classrooms, a hall and recreational spaces that include a pitch with synthetic turf.

The original outer wall of the school's lower floor was retained, the government said.

The school is now equipped with facilities for art and music lessons, a library, a gymnasium and facilities for teachers and administrative staff.
