An exhibition of works by 50 artists which opens today at the Malta Hilton aims to promote love for sacred art, offer a way of meditation and prayer on the joy of Easter and the story of salvation and present to the modern materialist society, a way of redemption through sacred art.
Indeed, the Joy Of Easter is the theme of the exhibition that includes paintings, sculptures and ceramics and is organised by the Salesians of Don Bosco.
The exhibition will run until Easter under the patronage of the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church and the Vatican's Commission of Sacred Archaeology. It will be officially opened by Mgr Josè Manuel del Rio Carrasco.
All works on display are available for sale in aid of St Patrick's Salesian School, where the Salesians of Don Bosco cater for children in difficulty.
Fr Charles Cini, exhibition coordinator, said: "The Salesians of Don Bosco in Malta feel proud to give a valid contribution to all those of goodwill through this exhibition and to appreciate and live the mystery of Easter which is the Risen Christ.
"According to the teachings of the Church, Europe today must not simply appeal to its former Christian heritage, but it needs to be able to decide about its future in conformity with the person and the message of Christ."
The exhibition will be open for viewing daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
