A joint committee of Maltese and Tunisian oil exploration experts is due to meet in Malta later this week to identify the zones on the continental shelf which will be jointly explored and exploited by the two countries, Foreign Minister Michael Frendo said yesterday.
He told the House Foreign and European Affairs Committee that the experts will meet in terms of the agreement reached with Tunisia on February 27.
The meeting will be held between tomorrow and Sunday.
Dr Frendo explained that the agreement had laid down that the zones would be identified within three months of the appointment of the experts' group. The zones will be decided in cognisance of the rule of law and interests of third countries, he said.
