A contractor yesterday filed a judicial protest in the First Hall of the Civil Court calling upon the Paola local council secretary to publicly apologise for what he claimed were false allegations made in his regard.

Paul Zammit filed the protest against Anthony D. Brincat in his personal capacity and as secretary to Paola local council.

Mr Zammit was engaged by the Water Services Corporation to carry out works on the water mains in a Paola road.

The works had been inspected by WSC engineers who had confirmed that all had been carried out properly.

But Mr Brincat had sent a letter, on the local council's letterhead, to the WSC in which he alleged that the works carried out by Mr Zammit were faulty and had caused the residents of the locality much inconvenience.

Mr Brincat had requested the WSC chairman to blacklist Mr Zammit and to stop awarding him contracts.

In yesterday's protest, Mr Zammit claimed that these allegations were totally false and defamatory. A WSC engineer had confirmed in writing that the corporation was very surprised by these claims and that the works had been carried out properly.

Mr Zammit formally protested and called upon Mr Brincat to immediately retract the allegations and to publicly apologise to him.

Mr Brincat was also held responsible in damages.

Lawyer Kris Busietta signed the protest.
