An educational congress on "Leading and Managing a Lasallian School in a Changing Society" is being held at the Dolmen Hotel this weekend. The congress is sponsored by the European Association of Heads of Lasallian Schools, known also as ASSEDIL, whose headquarters are in Paris. Br Martin Borg, FSC, Maltese provincial of the De La Salle Brothers, is responsible for the organisation of this conference.
ASSEDIL president Sian Grant is presiding over the conference which is being attended by some 125 heads of schools hailing from Malta, Spain, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Belgium and Romania. The delegates were greeted by Ms Grant, who is also the president of the committee and head of an Ipswich school, together with Br Martin and Br Claude Reinhardt, FSC.
On Friday, President Emeritus Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, a former Education Minister, opened the ASSEDIL conference with a presentation entitled "Malta: A Cultural Synopsis."
Yesterday, Michel Bertet made a presentation on the characteristics of a Lasallian school, while Dr Terry Collins spoke about "Challenges facing Leaders in Lasallian schools today". Dr Herman Lombaerts will today speak about "Multi-cultural, multi-faith challenges in Lasallian schools".
The ASSEDIL congress ends tomorrow when the reports of the Regional Lasallian Headteachers' Conferences will be read out and Peter Strass will talk about the new ASSEDIL Website.
Education Minister Louis Galea will also be attending.
