With reference to Mr Robert Grech's letter regarding requisitioned property (The Sunday Times, March 19), the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity would like to clarify that the Department of Social Housing, legally responsible for the administration of such requisitioned housing, does in fact have the details in hand on such properties.
Over the last years it has been undertaking a derequisitioning exercise to reassess the status of such housing. When it is established that derequisitioning would not adversely affect the tenant, these properties are returned to their owners.
In addition, a new policy came into effect over the last few months, namely that requisitioned property which becomes vacant is not reallocated but returned to the owners.
I trust that this explanation clarifies the reader's query.
