Bank of Valletta and HSBC Bank Malta are spearheading an initiative to promote Malta as a destination for inward investment by sponsoring and participating in a Financial Times business conference, organised by The Banker magazine in association with the Malta Financial Services Authority.

Entitled 'Banking on Malta - opportunities and challenges for inward investment', this conference is taking place at the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

The main aim of this conference is to showcase Malta as an ideal location for international business and foreign direct investment through its favourable economic and political climate, pro-business regulatory regime and professional financial services.

The conference will be addressed by Bank of Valletta chairman Roderick Chalmers and HSBC Bank Malta chief executive officer Shaun Wallis.

In his presentation, Mr Chalmers will give a banker's view of key domestic and international activities of the Maltese banking sector, and highlight the next likely areas of growth and how Bank of Valletta is positioning itself to make the best of these opportunities.

Mr Wallis will deliver a presentation on HSBC's views on the Maltese economy, focusing on the main developments and trends, and highlight the benefits of investing in Malta. He will also share his first-hand knowledge of the HSBC experience of doing business in Malta.

The distinguished panel of speakers for this event will also include Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank governor Michael Bonello, and Professor Joe Bannister, chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority.
