Former world heptathlon champion Eunice Barber was "uncontrollable" when police stopped her car earlier this month and her arrest followed proper procedures, a French police union said.
Barber was driving her car near the Stade de France 13 days ago when police forced her to stop. The French athlete's mother and nephew were also in the car.
"They have asked her to calm down," Frederic Lagache told Alliance's Website. "She was uncontrollable, almost in a state of dementia."
Video footage aired by L'Equipe TV on Wednesday showed Barber was put onto the ground by six police officers.
Barber's lawyer denied she had given the officers a problem.
"Eunice Barber does not seem over excited," Emmanuel Daoud told L'Equipe yesterday.
"You can hear her scream with pain." 7
