Freddy Fenech, who runs the Association for Abandoned Animals, got the chance to meet Sir Roger Moore more than 32 years after the then policeman was assigned to look after the James Bond film star.

Mr Fenech, a familiar face with The Times readers, was at the time working with the police Criminal Investigation Department when Sir Roger was on the island for a month playing one of the leading roles in the film Shout At The Devil.

The film's plot was set in World War I when an English poacher, an American adventurer and the latter's attractive young daughter, set out to destroy a German battle-cruiser that was awaiting repairs in an inlet just off Zanzibar.

When Mr Fenech approached Sir Roger, now 79, at Senglea Point on Tuesday to sign this photograph for him, the British veteran actor was taken down memory lane.
