The problem of overcrowding at St Luke's Hospital was among the issues raised by the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses during a meeting yesterday with President Eddie Fenech Adami.

Union president Rudolph Cini said Dr Fenech Adami agreed with the MUMN that primary care needed to be improved.

Mr Cini said the union council stressed that discussions about the working conditions at Mater Dei Hospital and the migration from St Luke's should continue at the earliest. He pointed out that the last meeting on these issues was held last June.

"It is important that Mater Dei will not become another St Luke's," Mr Cini told The Times.

Yesterday's meeting was one of a series of activities that the union is organising this year as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.
