Man found dead in car

Police suspect another overdose

A 24-year-old man from Zurrieq was found dead in his BMW late on Sunday night in his hometown.

Sources said the police suspect that Christian Gauci died of a drug overdose and they were questioning a number of people who could shed more light on the case.

The police said they had received a report of what was thought to be the lifeless body of a man slumped in a car parked in Carmelo Caruana Street.

He was pronounced dead on site. An autopsy held yesterday showed that the man died of pulmonary edema. This involves fluid accumulation and swelling in the lungs, usually caused by heart failure. The toxicology results are expected to be released in the next few days.

If confirmed, Gauci will be the third person who died of a drug overdose in the first three months of this year, the same number of reported cases throughout last year.

Duty magistrate Giovanni Grixti was informed and appointed several experts to assist in the inquiry.
