The next Literature and Comparison seminar will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Gateway Hall C. Dr Clare Thake Vassallo will read a paper called "Whose Play is it Anyway? Doctor Faustus and the Issues of Multiple Authorship and Generic Transformation".

Dr Thake Vassallo, who graduated from the University of Malta, pursued her interest in the interface between these three areas at the Istituto di Discipline della Comunicazione, University of Bologna, where she obtained her Ph.D. in Semiotics under the tutorship of Professor Umberto Eco. The emphasis of her research was in the field of the Semiotics of the literary text and as a cognitive process.

She is presently senior lecturer in English at the University of Malta. She teaches at the Junior College, and she lectures in the field of Literary and Critical Theory to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Arts. She has published papers on literary theory, literary history and on local language issues.

Dr Thake Vassallo is co-editor of The Communist Manifesto: Karl Marx's Legacy to Humanity, Malta UP, 2003, and of Malta, the Second World War (WWII), and Cultural Memory: Representations of the 'Madonna's Chosen People', Malta UP, 2005, a collection of essays on various forms of remembering literary, popular culture, museums and visual WWII material in Malta for the ACUME Thematic Network Project.
