Owning a Persian cat may be the wish of many, but few appreciate the degree of attention and care these felines require.

In some countries Persians are often abandoned because their owners cannot cope with the cat's daily grooming needs.

With in mind, the Malta Feline Guardians Club works to educate cat owners on how to care for their pet, whether Persians or not.

A seminar organised by the club's committee will be held tomorrow at the Preluna Hotel & Spa, in Sliema at 3 p.m.

Veterinary surgeon Adrian Vella will give advice on cat problems and tell owners about first signs of illness. He will also answer questions from the floor Ruth Mizzi, a professional groomer, will talk about the care of cats and how to prepare them for the First International Cat Show, to be held next month. The president of the MFGC will provide information about the show, which is being held in Malta for the first time. It will take place at the Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort Hotel & Spa on April 30 .

Two foreign judges, one from Spain and one from Italy, as well as a steward from Italy have been invited to judge the cats.

Those attending the seminar will be able to register for the show. A photocopy of the pedigree certificate is needed for the cat to be entered and registered with the club. Anyone who does not have a pedigree certificate can still take part in the cat show by registering their cats with the club.
