Cutajar wins national title
Squads named for World Championships
Mario Cutajar (picture on right) is the new national pool champion.
In the final, held at Pandora Hall, Zejtun, he had the better of Kenneth Grech with an 8-3 score.
This was Cutajar's first final and his victory assured him of a place in the national team to represent Malta in the World Pool Championships, in Blackpool, in June.
Cutajar, who plays for San Gwann Bocci Club, led 4-3 at the interval and went on to display some great potting skills in the second phase of the game to secure the title.
At the end of this fourth ranking tournament of the season, organised by the Malta Pool Association, the top 10 players are all guaranteed a place in the national team.
These are: 1. Antoine Cuschieri, 2. Ivan Rizzo, 3. Mario Cutajar, 4. Duncan Bezzina, 5. Jesmond Micallef, 6. Marcel Micallef, 7. Stanley Chircop, 8. Clint Azzopardi, 9. Adrian Camilleri, 10. Chris Mills.
In the U-18 competition, Miguel Falzon recorded another victory, beating Maverick Zammit 6-0 in the final of the junior category.
Falzon regained the no.1 spot in the rankings.
The top six also gained access to the U-18 Malta team for the World Championships. These are: 1. Miguel Falzon, 2. Wayne Farrugia, 3. Jurgen Attard, 4. Maverick Zammit, 5. Ryan Barbara, 6. Malcolm Azzopardi.
