A man was yesterday charged with holding his wife against her will and raping her on several occasions last year.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard the man plead not guilty to raping his wife both before and after the couple obtained a legal separation.

During yesterday's sitting the magistrate also ruled that there were sufficient reasons for the man to be indicted.

The name of the accused is not being published to protect the identity of his wife.

Police Inspectors Stephen Gatt and Paul Vassallo prosecuted.

Lawyers José Herrera and Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.
