The women's basketball team will figure in a play-off to avoid the bottom place in the overall standings today after they were beaten by India 80-47 (24-14, 17-13, 20-15, 19-5) yesterday at Melbourne Park's Multi Purpose Venue.
India, who finished third in their group before the positional play-offs, practically made sure of their victory in the opening quarter which they won by ten points. At half-time, India led 41-27.
Josephine Grima was again Malta's leading scorer with 22 points. Lucienne Bezzina potted 16. Malta's free-throw percentage was 40% (6-15).
Today, Malta face Malaysia again after the latter were beaten by Mozambique 80-70. Mozambique and India will play off for 5-6th place.
In a qualifying match earlier this week, Malaysia beat Malta 68-65.
The final will be contested by Australia and New Zealand.
