England built a lead of 152 yesterday in Mumbai after dismissing India for 279, thanks to four wickets from paceman James Anderson, and then struggling to 31 for two on the third day of the third and final test.

Anderson added the wickets of Rahul Dravid (52), Harbhajan Singh (two) and Munaf Patel (seven) to that of Sachin Tendulkar he took on the second day to give the tourists a commanding 121-run first-innings lead.

India then hit back hard, dismissing openers Andrew Strauss (four) and Ian Bell (eight). Debutant Owais Shah (15) and nightwatchman Shaun Udal (two) were at the crease after surviving a torrid last few overs.

India are 1-0 up in the three-match series.
