A 28-year-old man was yesterday jailed for a total of five years and eight months after he admitted to theft and the possession of heroin during the operative time of two suspended jail terms.

Christopher Spiteri, of Naxxar, pleaded guilty to stealing over Lm1,000 worth of items from a garage and the possession of heroin in February 2001.

He also admitted to committing the crimes during the operative time of two suspended jail terms - one a two-year jail term and the other an eight-month term.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed Mr Spiteri for three years and ordered that the suspended jail terms be put into effect.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.
