It pays to take the bus!

Much has been said about the proposed Qui-Si-Sana car park. I have tried to follow the various arguments keeping an open mind.

What I simply cannot take is the fact that this small island is choked with cars causing both air and noise pollution and traffic jams. At times getting in or out of Sliema via either Gzira or Tower Road takes well over 40 minutes.

The transport authority has an ongoing campaign to encourage the use of the very efficient, reasonably priced bus service in an effort to relieve the congestion on the roads.

Wouldn't a car park in the heart of Sliema only encourage more cars to drive in, making it environmentally suicidal? Would it not also be a huge step backward in the fight against air pollution and all the health problems it brings?

Let's hear what the doctors have to say about the increase in asthma in children living in highly polluted areas.

I take the bus to Valletta because I know that I won't find anywhere to park. Otherwise I would drive in.

So fewer car parks mean fewer cars. It's simple. Take the bus!
