The next session in the Literature and Comparison Seminar Series will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the Gateway Building Hall C.
Professor Paolo Orvieto will present a paper entitled L'Italia tra mito e realtà nell'Ottocento e nel primo Novecento. Through the examination of a number of texts ranging from Elizabethan theatre to the Gothic novel, from the English Romantics (Byron and Shelley) to the Victorians (Dickens), from art critics (Walter Pater) to English and American novelists such as Forster, Hawthorne, James, and Twain, Professor Orvieto will be discussing various images of Italians as the embodiment of evil genius.
Professor Orvieto is Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Florence. He is the author of numerous works on the theory of literature, Medieval and Renaissance literature, and comparative literature.
