Sting, who still attracts millions around the world with his mellow, yet groovy tracks will be kick-starting summer 2006 with a concert at the Luxol Grounds, St Andrew's, as part of the Broken Music Tour, featuring an all-new rock show, on June 6.
An initiative of Nng Promotions, the event will be treating the crowd with some of Sting's all-time hits, including various popular numbers from his time fronting The Police.
Addressing a press conference at the Hilton in St Julian's, Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said that it is has become a pleasant trend for popular artists like Sting to be invited to perform in Malta. With his concert, Sting will enhance the standard of cultural activities which could also attract foreigners to the island.
Sponsored by Vodafone and Coca-Cola, the concert promises to be one of the most professional and memorable musical events ever to be staged in Malta, and is sure to attract fans of all ages and tastes. Sting will be accompanied by his band, made up of Dominic Miller and Lyle Workman on guitars and Abe Laboriel Jr, who previously played for Paul McCartney, on drums. The Malta Convention Centre will be responsible for the equipment.
This is to be the concert to obtain the largest feedback in Malta, Dr Nigel Camilleri of Nng Promotions explained. Asked whether there will be any local musicians performing during the night, he said that no supporting acts have been confirmed as yet.
Vodafone Malta chief commercial officer Paul Bahia explained that Vodafone has been involved a great deal in the music scene, supporting local artists such as Ira Losco and Winter Moods. Therefore it is has become natural for the company to be associated with music and to support such events, he added.
Wilfred Camilleri of General Soft Drinks said the company was delighted to be associated with an event featuring an established figure in the international music industry.
