The Galleria Regionale Palazzo Bellomo of Syracuse, Sicily, recently organised a one-day seminar on Filippo Paladini, the 16th century painter who first worked in Malta and then went to Sicily. In both countries there are various works by Paladini.

The seminar, which was opened by Ray Bondin, brought together various academics and historians who discussed Paladini's influence.

Dr Bondin, who is the executive co-ordinator of the Valletta Rehabilitation Project within the Ministry of Resources and Infrastructure, presented a paper on the restoration project of the Paladini fresco in the Palace.

Paladini is an interest that has been given little importance in the past but now there is a revival of interest in his work.

The day-long event included the inauguration of a photographic exhibition about the areas of Sicily where Paladini worked and which are mostly still intact. A book was also published for the occasion. An exhibition of his work will follow in May.
