Judge Ray Pace last week gave a decree in the First Hall of the Civil Court enforcing a judgment by the Paris Court of Appeal to restrain the Maltese Internet game company Zeturf's activities.
The decree follows a petition filed by French betting syndicate Groupement d'Internet Economique Pari Mutuel Urbain (PMU) to enforce the January 4 judgment.
Judge Pace on Thursday rejected Zeturf's reply, saying why the decision shouldn't be enforced and also turned down an application by the Lottery and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta asking to intervene in the proceedings.
PMU sought enforcement under European Union Regulation 44/2001, which has direct applicability in all member states. PMU is being represented by Mamo TCV Advocates.
Zeturf have yet to be notified of the decree but it is anticipated that it will avail itself of appeal facilities under these same EU regulations. The LGA also has the right to request to intervene in the appeal stage.
