I have been reading closely about the plight of many animals in Malta and I can honestly say that every story makes me incredibly depressed. The only way this island is going to improve is through education.
Here are some stories about three of the many horses at The Funny Farm horse sanctuary, which were rescued from being turned into meat. One is about a six-year-old racehorse that injured himself in his last race. The owner got so angry that he added to the injury by kicking him on the same spot with safety shoes. Our little baby, not even a year old and already sent to face the unknown. He was completely shaved for some unknown reason at this time of year.
Another horse is a 10-year-old Swedish trotter. He was undernourished and still with evident marks on his neck where he was shaved so that he could be kept on the drip.
All of this can be stopped with education. If you can spare a few liri to help these horses then please do: The Funny Farm - Horse Rescue Association account number HSBC 061074589001.
Later in the year, I will be introducing some training for internationally recognised horse qualifications from the British Horse Society. It is about time that we get some proper qualified instructors and carers for our horses. Those interested may send me an e-mail to trojanblackhorse3@hotmail.com
