The bus strike is finally over and let's hope that gimmicks of this sort don't happen again. Apart from being disappointed at the childish way the transport association handled the situation - it can be called only that, seeing that they even stopped students from going to school - I was disappointed in another thing as well.
I am a second-year student at the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar. I'd like to ask, why was transport provided only to Junior College students? Why were we forgotten? Aren't we also a government school? What do we have less than the Junior College students? Many students couldn't make it to school and therefore missed lessons.
Apart from popular belief, the Higher Secondary is not a school for stupid students. It is a school which gives a second chance to students who haven't passed from certain O levels and weren't accepted at the Junior College or any other school. And even if we were stupid (which, again we aren't, I assure you), we are still a government school and we should have been given the same importance as the Junior College students.
I regard this as discrimination against us. The same people who preach and speak against discrimination, have discriminated against us GCHSS students in not giving us the means to get to school.
I hope the people responsible can at least come up with a reasonable excuse.
