The annual conference held by the Consumer Affairs Council to mark World Consumer Rights Day will take place at the Corinthia Marina Hotel, St George's today and tomorrow.
It will cover various topics including consumer credit, sale of goods and unfair commercial practices. The conference, with the theme Promoting Consumer Interests, is of particular interest to lawyers, bankers and other financial advisers, the council said.
In a message to mark the day, the Minister for Competitiveness, Censu Galea, said globalisation and EU membership had benefited consumers but it was now up to them to know their rights and make informed decisions when buying a product or a service.
"With over 7,500 inquiries being handled by the Consumer Division annually, we have a clear indication that the public is increasingly becoming aware of their rights," Mr Galea said.
