Obituary

GALEA. On March 8, at her home, ANOUSCKA, mercifully and peacefully departed this life aged 27. A butterfly lights beside us and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. Then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it. Much loved by her parents Alex and Cheryl, her brother James and her sister Alexa, her auntie Marie and uncle Neil, and all her many cousins and relations.
The funeral Mass will take place on Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at St Dunstan's Church, Woking, Surrey, followed by burial at St Edward the Confessor Church, Sutton Green. MIFSUD. On March 13, at St Luke's Hospital, TERESA, aged 83, widow of Paul, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Mother Church. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her children Rosette, Paul and his wife Margaret, Richard and his wife Caroline, Carmen and her husband Leone, her grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2.30 p.m. at Gzira parish church, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord grant her eternal rest.

PISANI. On March 14, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, VINCENZA née Doublesin, aged 74, of Sliema, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Carmen and her husband Charles, Luciano and his wife Patricia, Giovanna and her husband George, Liliana and her husband Mario, her brother Mario Doublesin, her nephews and nieces Gaetano, Leithean, Sylvana, Alexia, Michela, Maurizio, Lara, John, Patrick, great grandchildren Kyra, Jade, Charlot Lucia, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

VELLA BARDON. On March 13, at St James Hospital, Sliema, LINA, aged 90, widow of Dr Frank J. Vella, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church, endowed with unwavering faith, went peacefully to meet the Risen Lord. She leaves to mourn her loss her sons Mark and his wife Henriette, Klaus and his wife Susan, Frank and his wife Josanne, her grandchildren Chiara and her husband Anthony Attard, Marcus, John, James, Anna, Louisa, Michael and George, her sisters Mabel Read, and Margaret and her husband Cyril Smith, both of the UK, her sisters-in-law Connie Vella Gaffiero and Antoinette wife of Raphael Patiniott, her nephews and nieces in Malta and overseas, her steadfast friend Josephine Cefai and her other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Balzan parish church followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.

In Memoriam

BORG. Unfading memories of JOSEPH (ex-Customs Analyst), a loving father and grandfather, today the 14th anniversary of his demise. Sadly missed by his wife Mary, his daughter Edith and Arthur, his son Joe and Isabel, and his grandchildren Mariella, Joseph, Maria Clara and Joseph. May he rest in peace.

Spirituality For Leaders

Catherine McGeachy, director of Vision Consultants Ltd in Ireland, will deliver a public lecture tomorrow from 6.30 to 8 p.m. at the M.A. Vassalli Hall C, University of Malta.

The lecture, entitled Spirituality For Managers And Executives, is aimed at those in leadership positions in organisations, focusing on the importance of spirituality in the workplace.

Tombola and pizza

The Sliema Philharmonic Society will be holding a tombola and pizza night at 34, St. Trophimus Street, Sliema tomorrow at 7 p.m. Entrance is Lm1.

The activity is designed to raise funds for the special feast to be held in June and July in Sliema to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the arrival of the statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sacro Cuor).

Road Closed

Palm Street, in Paola, will be closed to traffic today from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. due to the presence of a crane.

Route buses 11, 15 and 115 will be diverted from Tarxien Road to Paola Square. Vehicles coming from Tarxien Road will be diverted to Hal Luqa Road or to De Paule Square and those from Marsa to Santa Lucija Avenue.

The Malta Transport Authority urges motorists to exercise caution at all times.

Power Cuts

The electricity supply will be suspended today as follows:

Sliema, from 8 a.m. to noon, in Santa Rita Street and parts of San Pietru, San Publiju, L-Annunzjata and San Vincenz streets.

In Qawra, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Il-Gifen, Paderborn and Luigi Preziosi streets.

Art display

Twenty-one students of art, tutored by Matthew Cassar of Rabat, are displaying their works in an exhibition themed Folklore And Cultures at the Society of Art, Manufacture and Commerce at Palazzo De La Salle, Valletta.

The exhibition depicts the cultural and folkloristic patrimony of 19 nations as seen through the eyes of the artists with each student portraying a different country after having researched, analysed and developed the theme. The works are rendered in different types of media.

Waterfront Displays

Valletta Waterfront is planning a series of activities to be held along Pinto Marina over the coming months. There will be various displays of model boats, cars and bikes as well as of other hobbies.

Kellogg's has launched a new promotional scheme on selected cereal packets. A free gift will be given away with every purchase of two Ice Age 2 packets of Kellogg's Frosties, Kellogg's Coco Pops, Kellogg's Honey Loops, Kellogg's Corn Flakes or Kellogg's Coco Pops Coco Rocks.

There are four clip-on characters to collect: Sid, Manny, Diego and Scrat. Inside each promotional pack will be a free ice-lolly maker in the shape of one of the four Ice Age 2 characters.

Bike marathon

The United States Ambassador to Malta, Molly Bordonaro, donated a number of books to Dun G. Zammit Brighella Boys' Junior Lyceum, Hamrun, to be presented as prizes in a 50-hour bicycle marathon from March 24 to 26.

The funds raised through the marathon will go to the Dar tal-Providenza and the Muscular Dystrophy Group.

Technologies Programme

Malta University Services Ltd will run a 15-hour evening programme on technologies for competitive manufacturing aimed at introducing students to modern concepts, technologies and equipment that have become indispensable in today's competitive manufacturing environment.

The programme starts on April 21.

Each lecture will focus on a theoretical introduction to a particular technology, followed by practical demonstrations using high-technology equipment.

The course targets people with a technical background working in the manufacturing industry, as well as those in managerial positions in SMEs involved in manufacturing.

Music festival

Simon Tonna of Simon's Pub, in Sliema, will be staging the eighth music festival in aid of the Eden Foundation and is appealing to companies and others to sponsor the event that will take place at the pub from March 24 to 26.

The Eden Foundation was set up 13 years ago and more than 1,000 children and adults have benefited in one way or another from the educational services it offers.

At present about 360 children, adolescents and adults with mental disabilities are benefiting from its programmes.

Over 120 persons have been placed in employment, 80 of whom retained their place.

Over Lm780,000 is needed for the running of the foundation this year, a spokesman said.

Donation

Spiteri Lucas Entertainment has donated Lm250 to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, in Siggiewi. The donation was part of the proceeds raised at last December's family Christmas show Sleigh Bells In The City, staged by SLE at St James Cavalier Theatre, Valletta.
