Between 2000 and 2004 there were 44 people who died from a drugs overdose, Health Minister Louis Deguara told Parliament yesterday.

Answering questions by Labour MP Silvio Parnis, he gave out statistics for the period which show that there were seven, 13, nine, eight and seven deaths respectively in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Also in reply to a question by the same MP, Dr Deguara said that between 2003 and 2005 seven children below the age of 10 lost their lives to cancer: there were no victims in 2003, four in 2004 and three in 2005.
