Yesterday Malta and 52 other Commonwealth countries commemorated Commonwealth Day.
The theme chosen for this year's celebrations was Health And Vitality - The Commonwealth Challenge, to serve as a reminder that people all over the year should have access to good food, fresh water and a decent environment to live in, free of disease.
To mark this special event, particularly in view of Malta's role as Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment and the British and Australian High Commissions, organised a Commonwealth Day Competition for secondary students attending forms 1 to 4.
The subject matter of the competition was the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which was held in Malta last November. The students were asked to present a project looking back at this historic event and forward to a peaceful future in which everyone is treated equally and differences are valued.
Four secondary schools participated with a total of 11 projects.
The prize awarding ceremony was held yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Valletta.
