Irish middle-distance runner Sonia O'Sullivan's selection for Australia may be revoked after officials ordered an investigation.

O'Sullivan is ineligible to compete at the Commonwealths for the country of her birth Ireland as it is not part of the Commonwealth, but she has been selected to represent Australia where she lives and trains about half the year.

O'Sullivan was granted Australian citizenship less than seven weeks ago and was controversially selected in the Commonwealth Games team when she finished second in the 5,000 metres at the Australian trials.

Athletes normally have to sit out international competition for three years before they can represent another country, but the clause does not apply to the Commonwealth Games.
