Out of €800 million being allocated to the Maltese Islands in the 2007-13 EU budget, Gozo will benefit from 10 per cent, or €80 million.

Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi said this at a dialogue meeting, held recently at Qala Primary School which was attended by around 400 people.

Before the meeting, Dr Gonzi went to see the works on the road from Victoria to San Lawrenz, which are being funded by the EU and which will cost around €4 million.

The road is about three kilometres long and should be ready by the end of this year.

The Prime Minister visited the Gozo University Centre, where he called at various classes and saw the students following courses, some of which are partly financed by the EU European Social Fund.

He also had the opportunity to speak to Professor Lino Briguglio through the video conferencing system. Dr Gonzi, who was accompanied by Minister Giovanna Debono during his stay in Gozo, said he was impressed with the technological advances made.
