Malta International Airport (MIA) was voted one of the top three airports worldwide within the category of airports handling under five million passengers, according to the AETRA passenger survey for 2005.

The survey is a joint research study by ACI and IATA, based on over 100,000 completed questionnaires among 66 airports worldwide.

MIA scored a high satisfaction rate of 78 per cent - three percentage points more than 2004 - and was perceived to be the best European airport in its category.

Overall, MIA was voted fifth best European airport from among 30 airports and was ranked 16th overall among all 66 airports under review.

MIA expressed its satisfaction at the positive results and attributed the favourable outcome to the commitment and professional attitude of its "competent" employees.

The positive trend for the past four years justifies the investment MIA has made to improve the quality of service and increase efficiency, the company said.
