A Cospicua man yesterday filed a judicial letter in the First Hall of the Civil Court against Paul Muscat calling on him to withdraw defamatory allegations made in his regard.

Joseph Scerri referred in his letter to a leaflet written and distributed by Mr Muscat with the title Irtirati L-Allegazzjonijiet Ta' Frodi Fil-Konfront Ta' Pawlu Muscat (Fraud allegations against Paul Muscat withdrawn).

Mr Scerri claimed that the allegations were unfounded, as he had no connection with the case mentioned in the leaflet. He further denied that he had refused to publish a declaration made by auditor Joseph Gauci in the publication Sehmna, adding that he had never been called upon to do so.

Mr Scerri warned Mr Muscat that in the event that such allegations, which were solely aimed at damaging his reputation before the Cospicua local council elections, were not withdrawn, he would hold Mr Muscat liable in damages.

Lawyer Luciano Busuttil signed the letter.
