The Committee Against The Proposed Recycling Plant yesterday filed a judicial letter in the First Hall of the Civil Court against the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

The committee referred to the application submitted to Mepa by Waste Serv (Malta) Ltd for the construction of a new recycling plant at Sant'Antnin, Marsascala and called upon Mepa to immediately insist with the developer to conduct, at its expense, a serious comparative study of similar plants by competent and independent experts.

The committee claimed that the aim of such a study was to show variations in the prices of property in the locality and in its environs as a result of the recycling plant, both on the basis of when the plant had originally been built till today and also to find out what would happen when the new plant was constructed.

Furthermore, the committee called on Mepa to carry out a serious analysis of the impact the proposed plant would have on the health and safety of the residents of the locality.

It claimed such studies would serve as a serious and integral benchmark for the time the residents would sue for damages in the future should the application be approved.

Lawyer Owen Bonnici signed the letter.
