The Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Tonio Fenech presented Lm20,000 from the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund to the Malta Olympic Committee to assist in the participation of the Maltese athletes in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006.
The contingent left for Melbourne yesterday.
MOC vice-president Julian Pace Bonello received the money.
The fund, formerly known as the Super 5 Lottery Fund, helps individuals, agencies or organisations with a social, cultural, educational, sports, philanthropic or religious background. The fund gets its income through a percentage from the amount of tax payable from lotteries and games and from unclaimed prizes.
Other contributions made recently included those to the Young People's Unit, Oratorio Don Bosco, Dar Suret il-Bniedem, and the Malta Photographic Society.
