Public Investments Minister Austin Gat said yesterday that the management of Malta Shipyards had held a meeting with the GWU to deny various rumours currently making the rounds.

He told Labour MP Leo Brincat in reply to a parliamentary question that it was not true that the shipyards would shed 500 workers; it was not true that some workers were to be transferred to IPSL; it was not true that a new early or voluntary retirement scheme was planned and it was not true that a subsidiary repair and maintenance company was being set up and that shipyard workers would be transferred to it.
