With all due respect to Mary Anne Pace (March 2), I maintain that improvements were carried out in soft areas in Sliema over the past few years. I would add that this is one example where cross party cooperation worked for the benefit of residents.
I would be the first to agree that the situation in soft areas is far from perfect and that much more remains to be done, but I definitely disagree with Ms Pace who says that "it is better to have nothing"! This would be the easiest thing to do - and it would surely not be of service to residents.
Ms Pace is more than welcome to make proposals regarding the maintenance of soft areas. After all, the sub-committee within the Sliema local council has taken on board various suggestions from residents. Just one recent example is the increase in height of the soft area in the centre strip at the Strand, which was an eyesore.
