The Department of Chemistry will be hosting its third National Chemistry Symposium tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Erin Serracino Inglott Hall (behind the University Library).
The symposium is sponsored by four pharmaceutical companies (Actavis Ltd, Arrow Pharm (Malta), Medichem Manufacturing (Malta) Ltd, and Starpharma Ltd) and is open to the general public. All those interested in chemistry, particularly chemistry graduates; people working in the chemistry field and students taking chemistry at Sixth Form are encouraged to attend.
The programme includes various graduate presentations who will be presenting the results of research work (carried out under the supervision of academic members of staff) in various areas of chemistry including analytical, environmental, inorganic, materials, organic and physical chemistry.
This year we are also honoured that two scientists of distinction - Professor Andrew Alderson (University of Bolton, UK) and Professor Michael Chetcuti (University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France) have kindly accepted our invitation to present a paper at this symposium as keynote speakers.
Both professors have a very strong link with the department since Professor Alderson is one of the main academic collaborators of our Auxetics Research Group, whilst Professor Chetcuti, a Maltese expatriate currently based in Strasbourg, obtained his first degree from our University in 1976.
