Gozo communal centre still not yet started

The Project to build a communal centre in Victoria has not yet started, despite it being announced more than five years ago, opposition leader Alfred Sant complained yesterday.

Speaking during a press conference, Dr Sant said the project was supposed to include level parking, a new football ground, shops and offices as well as the transfer of the Gozo law courts and the outdoor market, the building of a new bus terminus and the development of an open air space to hold various activities.

He said since 2000, when the project was announced, the government has spent only Lm23,125 on this project, which is still on paper.

Dr Sant added that other promises for Victoria have not been carried out, including the opening of a new road close to the sports complex, the extension of Viani Street, new footpaths in two streets and the embellishment of Republic Street.

He said the MLP local councillors would work to ensure cleanliness in the locality, and continue insisting with the government to find a solution of the Gozo Hospital incinerator. They were also committed to work for a day care centre to be built in Victoria, to bring investment for the public library and promote reading, especially among young children through story telling sessions.
