Gozo Channel carried more vehicles and passengers between Malta and Gozo last month compared with the same period last year.

The total number of passengers and vehicles carried last month was 198,084 passengers and 59,998 vehicles, compared with 180,879 passengers and 55,367 vehicles in February last year. This translates to an increase of 17,205 passengers (9.5 per cent) and 4,631 vehicles (8.4 per cent) over the corresponding period last year.

Volumes during the six-day Carnival period reached the same levels as last year, in spite of strong winds and technical problems that led to a limited service being provided on February 24.

Earlier this year, Gozo Channel introduced a series of winter initiatives to encourage more people to travel to the sister island. The offers are being held in conjunction with several restaurants and accommodation establishments, which means passengers can effectively travel to Gozo for free on certain days.
