Healthy living was recently given a plug by the school council at Pawlu Xuereb Rabat Primary A. It is strongly believed that if children are helped from an early age to eat healthily and lead a healthy life, it is more likely that they will grow into healthier adults.
During the months preceding this event, teachers prepared charts and talked to the children about the necessity to take care of their bodies by eating well, doing exercise and avoiding junk food.
A healthy breakfast, organised by Nestlé for the children, featured the character Quiky, who encouraged the children to drink more milk. The school council members also offered pupils and their teachers a healthy dessert consisting of chopped fruit topped with yoghurt. This macedonia was a refreshing snack enjoyed by all.
A talk on healthy living, including allergies, skin care and protection against head lice, was also organised for parents. These were given small gifts and spot prizes were also won. They were also served brown bread sandwiches, pasta with ricotta sauce, cereal bars and yoghurt.
During another activity, children were also given ham buns. This proved to be a big success since both students and parents were made more aware of the importance of eating healthy food and taking care of themselves.
This activity owes its success to the co-operation of the school's senior staff management, the teachers, the school clerks, and all the minor staff, but especially the parents forming part of the school council, who worked relentlessly.
Sponsors who provided food, drinks and other products included Nesquik, Cheerios, Fitness, Muller, Alpen, Weetos cereal, Malta Dairy Products Ltd, Vita Sana laundry detergent, Nice 'n Clear, Flexitol Hand Balm, Flexitol Heel Balm, Omveda Products, Jespers and Le Rose.
