The Eden Arena in St Julians has been transformed into a typical Maltese village with stalls serving food from various Mediterranean countries for the Mediterranean Food Festival that opened yesterday.
The festival is being held over two weekends: between yesterday and Sunday and from March 10 to 12.
The festival features a culinary competition open to local and international chefs for the coveted prize of the best Mediterranean dishes.
Amateur chefs and cooks will have the chance to compete for the best Maltese traditional dishes. Both competitions will be judged by a panel of international chefs. Foreign and local entertainers will animate the festival with music and dance routines from the Mediterranean.
Ainsley Harriott, the resident chef of BBC TV's Good Morning programme and renowned for his programmes Ready Steady Cook and Can't Cook, Won't Cook, will be at the festival in the second weekend where he will present two cookery shows and will adjudicate one of the competitions.
This fifth edition of the festival is being organised by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture in association with the Malta Tourism Authority and the Eden Leisure Group.
