The Prime Minister yesterday inaugurated an extension to St Anne's primary school in Marsascala which has doubled the teaching area.
The Lm150,000 project involved two phases and included the building of a new storey.
Speaking during the inauguration, Dr Gonzi said the government had placed education as a main priority together with the environment and the economy.
With a well educated workforce, the country would be able to attract the best possible investment as was happening with SmartCity@Malta, the pharmaceutical industry and the aircraft repair sector.
Education Minister Louis Galea said the first phase of works focused on the building of six new classrooms and sanitary facilities.
Other works included the installation of water and electricity supplies, computer networks, drainage systems, floor tiles, marble works, new apertures and new school furniture.
The second phase included the building of a new storey, consisting of seven classrooms and two offices among others.
