Labour leader Alfred Sant yesterday kept his cards close to his chest when asked who of the Dubai investors had spoken to him about the SmartCity@Malta project.
"I have nothing more to add to what I have already stated," Dr Sant said.
Following the announcement of the Dubai IT company's multi-million liri investment by Investments Minister Austin Gatt last week, Dr Sant said the investors had unofficially contacted the opposition, adding they were given assurances that a future Labour government would extend full support to the project.
Subsequently, Dr Gatt said "none of the investors had contacted Alfred Sant or the Labour Party", expressing concern that someone could have presented himself as a promoter when he was not.
The minister asked Dr Sant to state who contacted him, even confidentially, adding there would be no problem with giving the opposition details of the project and allowing it to meet the investors.
Asked yesterday whether he would take up Dr Gatt's invitation, Dr Sant simply said he had nothing more to add.
